The supersonic speed with which popular views on sexuality seem to be changing is dizzying. Christians and traditionalists look at their country in amazed dismay – how could the moral underpinning in this country have been abandoned so quickly – seemingly overnight? In reality, these changes have been the agenda of the far left for quite a long while, but most of society and the church have not been paying close attention. The left has been steadily working on this crusade for decades, focusing especially on the young in their propaganda efforts. It only seems like it all happened overnight because the numbers of the bamboozled have finally reached critical mass. Older people are naturally dying off – younger people are coming of age. And, as this younger generation takes the reins, they will be teaching the generation coming along right behind them, who will probably be willing to accept even more radical ideas.

The change only seems cataclysmic, because the curtain is now being completely pulled back, exposing the damage that has been done to the foundations of our society over many years. Many of us can remember a day when the morality issues confronting us today would have been inconceivable, seemingly impossible. But as we pointed out, it didn’t really drop on us overnight. Although the left diligently undermined Christianity by pushing God out of our cultural landscape, Christian morality endured as a guidepost for a quite a while. Why? Because most Americans, Christian or not, retained Christian views on right and wrong, because that had been our template for so long. Of course people did act contrary to their conscience, but at least they knew they were doing something wrong. So our nation was protected by a “Christian hangover,” so to speak. But now, not just morality issues but all issues are being reexamined. The old “sins” are not relevant anymore, and certainly nothing we want to do is wrong! Let’s create new “sins” more in step with our new “values.” “Intolerance,” so called “bigotry,” “hurtful speech,” etc – these are the new improved and approved “sins” of the new world. It’s not just personal morality issues either, as we have recently been made aware. Capitalism – It’s unfair! – who needs it? Free speech is now “hate speech.” Freedom of religion? NO, freedom from God and his judgments is what we demand…and so on. And so, here we are – living in a world of fantasy. Weirdness reigns.

A friend, Pastor Bruce K. Oyen, dropped us a note with some thoughts:

This transgender controversy got me to thinking of one of its potential ramifications. Here it is, in the form a hypothetical story: Harry arrives home from college one weekend to visit his parents. While there, he tells them that he is now engaged, and will be getting married in two months. His parents are excited! They tell him they are glad for him. Then his mother asks Harry who he is going to marry.

Harry tells them he is going to marry a friend from high school, whose name is Larry. His parents say, “What? You are going to marry Larry? We had no idea you are gay! How long have you been keeping this from us?”

Harry says, “Oh, stop it, Mom and Dad! I’m not gay! And neither is Larry!”

Harry’s Dad says, “What do you mean? You are a man and Larry is a man. So, both of you must be gay!”

Harry responds, “Neither one of us is gay! Larry self-identifies as a woman! He dresses like a woman. He has long, beautiful hair that makes him look like a woman. He acts like woman. He uses the women’s restroom at stores, college, and other places. He thinks he is a woman. And I think he is one, too. So, we are going to get married and live happily ever after as a heterosexual couple! You gotta understand, Mom and Dad, sexual identity has nothing to do with the body. It is a mind thing.”

Don’t believe it can’t happen. Of course it can happen. And if and when it does happen, who’s going to question or oppose it without creating a big controversy and inviting denunciation upon the head of the one who objects? It’s seems to us like it is already pretty much “anything goes” these days, but “progress” is not going to stand still. Maybe Harry and Larry will also marry Suzy and Fred. Maybe throw in the dog and the hamster. Why not? What could be wrong with that? Only a bigot would “deny rights” to someone just because of who they love – or because of how many they love. Or because of one’s species – We can’t hold it against someone for being born with a tail…

Another, less hypothetical future change will be the legalization of pedophilia. Erik Rush in his recent piece, “Pedophiles: The Next Protected Minority Group” the transition to recognizing this group as a protected minority group. After all, who has the right to tell anyone who they can love? Pedophiles can claim that they were born the way they are, and as such, God made them this way. How can anyone deny them their rights? But what about the child? What about his or her rights? “Research” has already “found” that children are not necessarily harmed by sexual relations with adults, and it is claimed that many children actually enjoy the experience. Children, we are told, only feel bad because adults make them feel bad and so we just need to start talking in more affirming language. We must abandon the word pedophilia and use the phrase “adult child sex.” Voila! It is all fixed. Of course, further “research” will likely “confirm” this. Does society have the right to deny children their right to happiness on the basis of something as arbitrary as their age? Maybe these children simply “identify as adults?” When that happens our culture will have fully made it back to Pre-Christian First Century Rome, which is, in our opinion, where we are headed. We have been predicting this for several decades now and outlined it again about 3 years ago in “Sex Before Eight or It’s Too Late”

Most of the church seems unprepared for the approaching future shock. Emotionally, many Christians and churches are already reeling from the changes already imposed. We already know that some churches will raise the white flag of defeat and embrace any new cultural sexual norm, either because they are actually bamboozled or in order to avoid being labeled bigoted. But those who refuse to go with the flow will have to fight against the temptation to sit back and nurse our grief or put our heads in the sand. We must acknowledge that keeping one’s head OUT of the sand is often quite painful – very painful, in fact. But we will have to be the grownups. We are living right now, no longer in the “good old days.” We have children to teach and to present a good example to – we need to love and support each other – and there is a whole world of disoriented lost people to point to Christ. If we don’t do it, who will? We need to make good use of our time here because the days are evil.

The Bible has said for two thousand years now that “in later times, some will depart from the faith” and embrace “deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.” (1 Timothy 4:1, ESV) Oh, and by the way, the Bible clearly states that perilous times – “times of difficulty” – will arise in the last days. “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with deceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness while denying its power. Avoid such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5, ESV) So, we can’t say we weren’t warned.

We have to live in this world, in this time, but we should not lose heart. God knows what is happening, and He is for us. And, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) OK, so the President can, and the Supreme Court can, and the culture can, but nobody near as big and powerful as God.

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:23-25, ESV)Ω
